DAY 10: Is it that time already?

We woke up much earlier than we really wanted to do, had a strange breakfast that was more like dinner, then headed off on a bus trip from Ho Chi Minh City to the Cu Chi tunnels. Many of us caught up on some sleep on the drive. We saw an introductory video about the Vietnam War, which is referred to as the American war over here. It was very interesting to see history from the other side, with the Americans referred to as Devils. We were all amazed at how innovative the Vietnamese had been during the war, saving their village by creating a labyrinth of tunnels away from the eyes of the American soldiers. Some of the tricks they employed to keep hidden were sandals made from tyres that were designed to leave tracks going the opposite way; leaf covered trapdoors going into the tunnels; and very clever and very painful hidden traps that often ended in disembowelment.

We had delicious Pho and more marketing, hilariously serene rides on cyclos amidst the chaotic traffic, and a visit to the War Remnants Museum where we were deeply moved by the agent orange pictorial display of the ongoing disabilities and birth defects caused by highly toxic chemical weapons. Now we are waiting at the airport ready to come home!

See you soon........
